We grew
up in Lanark, IL got married in 1969, have three grown children and
five grandchildren. Both of us grew up riding horses. I
loved it and Bill hated it, as he had some difficult horses to handle.
When I was in my forties, I was riding two Arabians and finding that
I just didn't heal up as quickly after getting dumped. I thought
it was time to look for a mount with a cooler disposition. I read
about the Rocky Mountain and Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses and decided
to start a search. I purchased my first mountain horse in December
of 1993. I fell in love with the breed and the rest is history.
In our breeding program, we make every effort to stay strictly with the old
time disposition and trail gait. We have avoided show type horses
and have been selective in purchasing stock that have the laid back,
calm behavior patterns. Disposition is said to be one of the most
inheritable traits, and we have certainly found this to be true.
When we sell foals or trail broke stock, we make every effort to suit the
horse to the buyer. We have had great success with folks who keep
in contact year after year, letting us know about the pleasure of riding
a horse that is "perfect" for them. Even foals are usually pretty
predictable, as we know both parents and their dispositions. Our
stock is born gaiting and we do not use any artificial means to put
the gait on them. We don't use shoes unless the horse has had
enough rocky miles that they are getting tender. We usually have
several experienced trail horses for sale, and try to have a least one
that is reliable for the very inexperienced rider. If you want
to get a great gaited horse and are willing to wait a couple years,
we can offer you a wonderful value on a foal. If you are looking
for a great gaited trail horse, we'd love the chance to show you what
we have for sale. Also if we do not have what you are looking
for, we will be happy to guide you to other breeders in the area.
